Saucy!

Another one from the wonderful Aishling

Awkward is the new music video from LA based quartet Saucy Monky. Taken from their upcoming 3-part EP Trophy Girl, Awkward describes that most familiar of lesbian experiences; running into an ex at a party. And not just any ex, the ex. You know the one. That bitch.

Oooh..err

Catchy number

The song itself can be a tad clumsy lyrically. The beginning in particular has a few little cringe moments, although I think this may be intentional. It’s very emotive, and you can definitely imagine having this in your headphones as you go about your day. It has that lovely grungy, rainy weather feel about it, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also quite catchy.

The video is kind of a different creature altogether, it’s very polished and clean looking, which is a bit jarring. Set in the windiest house party of all time, it’s a very literal interpretation of the song. We see the main character spot her ex and then proceed to make a fool of herself in front of her repeatedly.

Desperate lezzer

It pretty effectively captures the feeling of being simultaneously desperate for a person to notice you and knowing they are bad for you. You know, like all lesbian relationships ever, all the time always. Also the video is full of attractive ladies making out with each other, another bonus.

Aside from personal problems with the term ‘trophy girl’, it is difficult to find fault with this music video. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, it certainly won’t please the pop crowd. But if you like your music a bit indie and with that Uh Huh Her kind of sound then you could do a lot worse than Saucy Monkey. It will certainly have you looking forward to hearing the full EP.
