Dublin Lesbian Line has a new look

They have new fully trained volunteers, a new website, new types of events and the same completely confidential support that they have been providing for decades. Set up in 1979 the volunteer-run helpline has come a long way; they’re even getting the hang of the internet now! Check out their new website on www.dublinlesbianline.ie and prepare to be transported to a world of social and support links, information and possibly the answers to those questions you’ve been wondering about!

Not just Dublin

Yes the helpline is called Dublin Lesbian Line although it is not just for lesbians and not just for Dubliners! The volunteers are equipped to deal with pretty much any and everything and do so without judgement. They provide support, and for all of those things people struggle to tell their loved ones, they’re there to listen. The volunteers who work on the phones are all anonymous and keep their identities closely guarded, and are not the same as the lovely ladies who work at the events.

So should you be afraid to call because you recognise someone in a DLL t-shirt, fear not you won’t know them and even if a volunteer and caller recognise each other on the phone – which I have been told has never happened – there is a procedure to transfer the call to another volunteer.

Do it

So if it’s something you’ve been holding in for years or you could just do with a chat call Dublin Lesbian Line on 01 872 9911, on Monday and Thursday’s from 6.30pm to 9pm. If you’re thinking to yourself that your times of need don’t always fit into those hours never fear, DLL are part of the National LGBT Helpline (see www.lgbt.ie for hours) and they open 7 days a week!

To launch DLL’s transformation they are officially unveiling their new website this Friday 17th January in Outhouse from 5-6.30pm. There may even be snacks.

Dublin Lesbian Line would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their previous webmaster (who happens to be our very own St Shelly of Webmasters), who voluntarily and without charge provided DLL with their website for a number of years, thank you!!
