What’s your favorite Christmas song?

Dec 12th, 2010 | By webmaster | Category: Music

You either love them or hate them but around this time of year you can’t avoid them. Christmas songs! I love Christmas and christmas music. I have 5 versions of White Christmas including an awful one by Micheal Bolton. Actually I really should get rid of that one.

Review: Imelda May – Mayhem

Sep 11th, 2010 | By CherryBomb | Category: Music

Imelda May has one of those voices. Rich, full, powerful and positively vintage in every way. As my sister said, her voice ‘just oozes sex like!’. Upon hearing her for the first time with ‘Johnny Got A Boom Boom’, I was instantly struck with curiosity. I had heard rockabilly music before, but never straight from Ireland.

Oh, you remember Tegan and Sara. They played recently in Dublin’s Olympia (the night of the P!nk near-riot in PantiBar). Well, I for one missed their free gig earlier that day in Tower Records. But now we bring you that gig in two parts! Plus, there’s more

You Gotta Have Harte

Jul 27th, 2010 | By HAL | Category: Music

Leanne Harte has been on a journey that would impress Odysseus. From 16 year-old on the cusp of hitting the big time, to dealing with a manager who didn’t do all he should, coming out and then burning out; it’s been one hell of a ride. And she wants to do it all again. Only this time, Leanne is a young woman comfortable in her own skin, in her own abilities and living her own life.

Tori, Queen of Queers

Jul 16th, 2010 | By HAL | Category: Music

There are only three types of people in the world; those who love Tori Amos, those who hate her and those who only know “that cornflake song”. Personally I love her. Really love her, whereas my partner calls her “that wailing bag of cats”. As I’m writing this I’m listening to my favourite Tori album, Boys for Pele, and hoping the rain holds off for the concert in The Iveagh Gardens this evening.

Review: The Twilight Saga – Eclipse Soundtrack

Jul 4th, 2010 | By CherryBomb | Category: Music

I know what you’re thinking: not more of this barmy supernatural love stuff. But this soundtrack proves to be more than just a compilation of alternative and indie songs to throw into the different parts of the movie for atmosphere.

Believe in this magic

May 27th, 2010 | By webmaster | Category: Music

Before you spew your tea everywhere, let me share a little secret with you about my wonderful colleagues here at at Gaelick HQ, they are not really into the Eurovision. I know, appalling isn’t it? When you consider that not alone are we gay, which should make us somewhat interested in the whole occasion, but [...]

Chely Wright feels the backlash

May 10th, 2010 | By Gooner | Category: Music

We are used to seeing Elton John, Melissa Etherige and even Adam Lamert be out and proud on our TVs and radios. We can sometimes forget that there are those in the music world for which the door is still very much closed. One such artist who dared to come out is county music star Chely Wright

Review: Melissa Etheridge’s Fearless Love

May 4th, 2010 | By CanuckJacq | Category: Music

Melissa Etheridge‘s most recent album Fearless Love was reviewed all over the place long before it hit the shelves a week ago. The reactions were mixed, but they all agreed on a few things. 1. It’s a true-blue return to Melissa’s late 80s, early 90s style. Really, it’s like Lucky and The Awakening (and to [...]

Melissa and Tammy Etheridge Split

Apr 15th, 2010 | By Gooner | Category: Music

Rocker Melissa Etheridge and actress Tammy Lynn Michaels have sadly ended their 9 year relationship. It’s so very sad to read that such a long relationship has come to an end. Let’s hope they both find love again in the future

Ladies Please….

Mar 14th, 2010 | By HAL | Category: Music

There is a furore brewing online at the moment. Is it the result of greedy tax-dodgers, greedy NAMA bananas or an inept government? No, it’s all about the Gaga. On the week where International Women’s Day was patted on the head and told how cute it looked, journos have decided that the video to Telephone is worth getting knicker-knotted.

Boyce Avenue

Mar 10th, 2010 | By tabula rasa | Category: Music

If you’ve never heard of Boyce Avenue, I’d strongly urge you to check these guys out. A YouTube phenomenon for the past couple of years, they have done acoustic covers of many chart hits including Rhianna’s Disturbia and Madonna and Justin Timberlake’s 4 Minutes, among many others. They have a tour date scheduled in Dublin for the 22nd of March.

Lady Gaga Gig

Mar 4th, 2010 | By tabula rasa | Category: Music

“Little monsters, show me your teeth!” Thus spoke Lady Gaga…
Little monsters (as Lady Gaga likes to refer to her fans) from all over Ireland started queuing outside the O2 from early morning on Saturday the 20th to assume prime positions by the stage for the gig. I arrived at the O2 just after 7pm and the queues were insane, so I’m glad I didn’t queue early!
