Review: Melissa Etheridge’s Fearless Love

May 4th, 2010 | By CanuckJacq | Category: Music

Melissa Etheridge‘s most recent album Fearless Love was reviewed all over the place long before it hit the shelves a week ago. The reactions were mixed, but they all agreed on a few things. 1. It’s a true-blue return to Melissa’s late 80s, early 90s style. Really, it’s like Lucky and The Awakening (and to [...]

Melissa and Tammy Etheridge Split

Apr 15th, 2010 | By Gooner | Category: Music

Rocker Melissa Etheridge and actress Tammy Lynn Michaels have sadly ended their 9 year relationship. It’s so very sad to read that such a long relationship has come to an end. Let’s hope they both find love again in the future

Ladies Please….

Mar 14th, 2010 | By HAL | Category: Music

There is a furore brewing online at the moment. Is it the result of greedy tax-dodgers, greedy NAMA bananas or an inept government? No, it’s all about the Gaga. On the week where International Women’s Day was patted on the head and told how cute it looked, journos have decided that the video to Telephone is worth getting knicker-knotted.

Boyce Avenue

Mar 10th, 2010 | By tabula rasa | Category: Music

If you’ve never heard of Boyce Avenue, I’d strongly urge you to check these guys out. A YouTube phenomenon for the past couple of years, they have done acoustic covers of many chart hits including Rhianna’s Disturbia and Madonna and Justin Timberlake’s 4 Minutes, among many others. They have a tour date scheduled in Dublin for the 22nd of March.

Lady Gaga Gig

Mar 4th, 2010 | By tabula rasa | Category: Music

“Little monsters, show me your teeth!” Thus spoke Lady Gaga…
Little monsters (as Lady Gaga likes to refer to her fans) from all over Ireland started queuing outside the O2 from early morning on Saturday the 20th to assume prime positions by the stage for the gig. I arrived at the O2 just after 7pm and the queues were insane, so I’m glad I didn’t queue early!

Gra Mo Chroi

Feb 26th, 2010 | By HAL | Category: Music

You have a crush on a famous personality. What do you do? You can sigh and dream about the day s/he finally falls for your charms or you can take things into your own hands. Maybe hide in the bush outside their house* and orchestrate casually bumping into each other, then you sweep them off their feet with your wit and charm.

P!nk Back in Ireland

Oct 17th, 2009 | By Annie Aura | Category: Music

P!nk was back in Dublin for two sold-out nights at the O2 Arena in Dublin and will be back next year for a few open-air shows. Fans camped out overnight at the venue to make sure they got as close as possible to Her P!nkness but some were disappointed in the setlist and wondered why two Funhouse songs were replaced with earlier songs. A few mentioned that the show was more like a A Greatest Hits concert.

Stephen Gately dies aged 33

Oct 11th, 2009 | By Gooner | Category: Music

I was really shocked earlier today to read that Boyzone singer Stephen Gately passed away suddenly while on holiday with his husband, in Majorca, he was 33 years old. The circumstances surrounding the singer’s death are not thought to be suspicious. Our thoughts go out to all his loved ones at this difficult time

Making Me GaGa

Aug 10th, 2009 | By HAL | Category: Music

Who the hell cares what gender or genders Lady GaGa is? She’s a music artist and a very popular one at that, that’s all the public need to know. Extending from that, who cares what gender or genders anyone is? Unfortunately a lot of people seem to care, when, as my mother would say “what fecking business is it of theirs?”

Mercury, with Venus in ascendent

Jul 22nd, 2009 | By orange | Category: Music

The Mercury Music Prize 2009 shortlist was released yesterday and is being greeted by pundits with some raised eyebrows (Hot contenders Doves, Little Boots and White Lies are omitted from the list) but mostly agreeing nods. Most striking about the 2009 shortlist though is the prevalence of female acts who have made the grade.

Album Review: Florence + the Machine – “Lungs”

Jul 21st, 2009 | By orange | Category: Music

A cursory listen to Florence + the Machine’s debut release, Lungs, would leave any music aficionado itching to liken Florence Welch’s voice and sound to already exhausted comparisons. Which is why you have to listen to Lungs again. And again, and again.

Anybody Seen My Disco Stick?

Jul 20th, 2009 | By Annie Aura | Category: Music

Just in case you are one of the few who haven’t been drawn into the crazy world that belongs to Lady Gaga (and to her alone, it seems) then I invite you to read on. The Lady Gaga world is an incredibly well manufactured product, from the crazy videos (see Paparazzi) to the bizarre interviews( see Johnathan Ross), the ridiculous get-ups (any photo) to the polished beats, synths and vocals on “The Fame”.

Album Review: Gossip – “Music for Men”

Jul 6th, 2009 | By orange | Category: Music

In 2006, The Gossip’s breakthrough album Standing in the Way of Control was much more than their big salutation to the music-world, the track from which the album took its name became analogous with the year and pre-eminent in the canon of protest songs. Three years later, Gossip have dropped the “The” from their epithet and [...]

Lady Gaga hits Ireland

Jul 2nd, 2009 | By orange | Category: Music

The reigning first lady of pop, Lady Gaga is currently taking her particular brand of questionable attire and the catchy á la mode synthesiser-driven Madonna/Gwen Stefani-esque vocals on tour. Since the runaway international success of dancefloor-filler “Just Dance” last summer, HRH Gaga has been churning out the happy hits (“Poker Face”,”Love Game”) from her early 2009 debut The Fame.

P!nk’s New Video – Funhouse

Jun 20th, 2009 | By Annie Aura | Category: Music

P!nk’s fourth video from her Funhouse album gets a mixed reception from fans. It’s too short? Too boring? Not enough going on? Watch and see what you think. The single will be released on the 21st August in Ireland.
