Nancy Hands

Sep 22nd, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

A few years ago, my partner and I lived close to Heuston Station and, when we were feeling flush, we’d head into Nancy Hands on Parkgate Street for a yummy dinner. These days, Ryan’s nearly next door is an FXB outlet so Nancy’s isn’t as popular as it used to be. Unfortunately, the food in [...]

The Winding Stair

Sep 2nd, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

These days The Winding Stair is both bookshop and restaurant. The bookshop on the ground floor is ludicrously lesbionic and fabulously faggy; if arty is your thing, get your art down here. The restaurant is full of ‘brothers and sisters’ and those poor straights who are oblivious to how gay Dublin really is.

The Mermaid Cafe

Sep 1st, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

The Mermaid Cafe on Dublin’s Dame Street has, along with its chilled out partner, Gruel, long been a haunt for LGBT thirthysomethings. I am a bit embarrassed that this weekend was the first time myself and my partner ventured inside.

Le Cirk

Aug 17th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Le Cirk is a faux-Parisian cafe bar, decorated to look like a place 1890′s arty (absynthe-swilling) folk would have loved. The design is all Edwardian-esque, Lumiere brothers, circus of ye olde years.

The Lemon Tree – Portlaoise

Aug 12th, 2008 | By Gooner | Category: Restaurants

I headed off to the cinema on Sunday evening in Portlaoise with three friends and we decided to grab a bite to eat first. We ended up outside a little restaurant over Delaney & Sons Bar called The Lemon Tree. We had a look at the menu and decided to give it a go. The [...]

The Hop House

Aug 11th, 2008 | By Bear | Category: Restaurants

Thanks to a big Irish Times write-up in July, the Hop House is no longer one of Parnell Street’s best-kept secrets. Now everybody is in on it, which I grudgingly admit is great for business, so I really can’t be covetous about my little corner of heaven, the best sushi restaurant in town. You sure [...]

Bruach na nAille Riverside

Aug 10th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Doolin is tiny, and is made up of one street, a pier and lots of B&Bs and hotels. So, most of the eateries are either the pubs or the hotels. The only actual restaurant we found was Bruach na nAille Riverside.

Darwins

Jul 18th, 2008 | By Gooner | Category: Restaurants

Yesterday after work, three colleagues and I decided we’d treat ourselves to dinner. We work near Aungier Street so decided to go somewhere nearby. There tends to be loads of places to go for lunch, but not so many for dinner. We strolled down Aungier Street and came upon a lovely restaurant called Darwin’s. To [...]

The Lotts

Jul 17th, 2008 | By Gooner | Category: Restaurants

One of my favourite places to go for lunch is The Lotts on Liffey Street in Dublin. It’s in a great spot to meet for lunch as it’s near the river, so although I work on the southside I can still meet my sister in there as she works on the northside. The staff are [...]

Dobbins

Jul 11th, 2008 | By click here | Category: Restaurants

[All links open in a new window] Three companions and I ventured to the south side of Dublin city to sample the tastes of Dobbins restaurant, located between Mount Streets Lower and Upper. [view location map] Wisely, we made our way there in time to catch the early bird menu, which ends at 7:30pm “sharp”, [...]

Fire

Jun 19th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Dawson Street is no usually a street I think of when looking for a place to eat. It always makes me think of Cafe in Seine, a place I can’t stand. But, after hearing that Fire is gay-friendly, I though I’d give it a go.

Bull & Castle

Jun 19th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

The Bull & Castle is one of the FXB gasto-pubs which have cropped up in Dublin over the past few years. The food is gorgeous, but it’s the establishment itself that you should go for. Excellent beer, good service and totally chilled out.

Madina Desi Curry

May 28th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Up until last year I was under doctor’s orders not to eat Indian food due to some stomachiness. After getting the all clear, on the proviso I don’t “eat that blow your head off stuff, I don’t want you in here blaming me”, I’m back eating Indian. And oh my god; how did I survive?????  [...]

La Taverna Di Bacco

May 27th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Featured, Restaurants

La Taverna is one of my favourite places to eat in town. The food is simple real Italian food, made with fantastic, fresh ingredients.

KOH – Food this time

Apr 30th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

After sampling the liquid delights of KOH in the Millenium walkway, it was high time I scoffed some of their food. For review purposes only, you understand.

KOH

Apr 9th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

KOH is a new trendy-but-not-too-cool place has just opened in Little Italy. That’s the Millenium Walkway on the north side of the Millenium Bridge. It’s a bar/lounge/Eastern fusion restaurant – I haven’t eaten there (yet) but so far so impressed. Scroll down for the Five Word Review Myself and the little lady went in to [...]

Fallon and Byrne

Apr 4th, 2008 | By HAL | Category: Restaurants

Myself, the little lady and our two mates went out for dinner t’other evening. As one of ‘the other pair’ is from the southside (I know, I know but she’s lovely honestly) she wanted to try a restaurant on said side of d’liffey. So off to Fallon and Byrne we went. Now, as a gayer [...]
