Yes, following a two day series of Seanad debates, the civil partnership bill has been passed and we’ve marriage for all! Grab a drink, whisk up your partner and let’s do-si-do! Well… perhaps not do-si-do quite just yet….

Morning! Doesn’t it look beautiful out? Makes a change from Noah wandering around collecting the animals and loading them into the ark he most likely bought from IKEA. Well I hope you all are ready to go frock and suit shopping as it was annouced yesterday that Mary made it legal.

While its not my usual day to fill your minds with insignicant celebrity stories about Megan Fox and her interest in all things Sapphic, put the kettle on and sure we’ll have a look at the stories making headlines over the last week or so. Things are hectic in Gaelick HQ at the mo so I’ve been drafted from behind the mainframes to fill you on in all the goings-on gay wise!

Hooray, hooray! After history was made last week, when the Dáil passed the Civil Partnership Bill 2009, the Bill makes its way to Seanad Éireann on both Wednesday and Thursday of this week for final debate. It should make for lively viewing and reading, if we hear from the likes of equality champions and anti-Bill conservatives.

Guess what’s back! That’s right, the Civil Partnership Bill 2009 returns, this time for the Report Stage in the Dáil. The debate takes place between 5pm and 9pm, tomorrow, Thursday, 1st July 2010. Tune in! Comment! Tweet!

The Civil Partnership Bill 2009 continues its progress through the Oireachtas, with committee stage taking place this Wednesday, 24th March 2010 at 10am. A Live Blog has again been set up, and we hope to embed the stream to the live Oireachtas video to allow readers to follow the debate.

(It is scheduled to take place at some point between 11:29am and 1:30pm, although first to be debated in that time-slot will be two other bills.) The Portuguese government yesterday approved proposed legislation to remove references to gender in respect of marriage. Yes, Portugal looks set to soon remove any prohibitions on same-sex marriage. The proposals, however, exclude such couples from being considered for adoption, with some saying that this enshrines further discrimination.

The Dáil is to debate the second stage of the Civil Partnership Bill today 6:45pm. As you may recall, the Bill was published the day before the Dublin Pride march in June of this year. A couple of weeks ago we wrote that An Taoiseach said the Bill would be debated, “Hopefully, in the first week of December.” And so it has come to pass.
