Everyone’s favourite women’s night, caKe, is turning 2 on Friday and is celebrating it alongside the Dublin Lesbian Line with “Telephone caKe” . Through its unique blend of indie, electro, pop and alternative music, caKe never disappoints and this particular outing should be no different.

For anyone who has ever wondered, Ballinlough Castle is not, as one may think, in Ballinlough! We found it eventually, and twe were greeted by security men pink hi-vis vests! All that remained was to collect the tickets, park the car and begin our MILK adventure.

Good afternoon folks! Its that time of the week when I crawl through various websites and bring you the gay, the not so gay and the downright silly stories making headlines over the last few days. Lets start with what has to be a shocker. The Indo in postive gay article shocker!

There are a few new nights starting up over the coming weeks, as well as some great one off events, so we here at Gaelick thought it would be a good idea to put them all into the one post for ease of your social lives!

It’s been quite a while since our last round-up of what’s been happening here at Gaelick Towers. (Personally, I blame the hectic madness of Pride and the Civil Partnership Bill.) Let’s remedy that, shall we?

Having previously posted on MILK Music Festival, I thought I should tell Gaelick readers to get themselves down to the Academy tomorrow night, 9th July, to get some MILK with their caKe!

At last the weekend is upon us! But what have you missed in Gaelick-land this week? Here’s a quick round-up of what we’ve been yakking about.

The internet buzz has been steadily growing around MILK-Ireland’s first ever LGBT music festival, over the past few weeks, so I thought I’d investigate on behalf of Gaelick. Having met with the organisers earlier in the week and gotten the full details, it sounds like its set to be an epic day. The line up is fabulously camp and fun, and boasts big international acts as well as home-grown LGBT talent.

February 2010 sees LGBT History Month being celebrated for the first time in Ireland, at Tallaght County Library. There will be talks on LGBT literature and history, a screening of Gus Van Sant’s “Milk”, and an ongoing exhibition curated by Tonie Walsh of the Irish Queer Archive.

One of my favourite things to do is to settle down to see a good movie. It can be an old classic or a new adventure but whatever it is I always enjoy the ride.
So when it comes to LGBTQ films, I am in heaven. There has been a great improvement in “queer” film over the last decade or so, here is a list of some of the films that have moved me over the years.

A quick run-down of the things not hitting the headlines because men and women in bad suits are too busy wittering on about the economy. There is good news as well as bad, for example in the UK Gordon Brown supports equality yet a gay man is killed in a homophobic attack.

Last night was Hollywoods biggest night of the year. The night when movie-makers get to pat one another on the back and we all get to wonder if our favourite’s name will be called after the legandary “and the Oscar goes to….”

Love them or hate them soon you won’t be able to get away from the fact that the movie indutries biggest night will soon be upon us.
