P!nk was back in Dublin for two sold-out nights at the O2 Arena in Dublin and will be back next year for a few open-air shows. Fans camped out overnight at the venue to make sure they got as close as possible to Her P!nkness but some were disappointed in the setlist and wondered why two Funhouse songs were replaced with earlier songs. A few mentioned that the show was more like a A Greatest Hits concert.

P!nk arrived back in Dublin on Wednesday morning for two more sold-out shows at the O2 (The Point) before moving on to Belfast. This is the second-leg of the Funhouse tour, similiar but not quite identical to the shows she put on here in April. The set-list was slightly different, out went Ave Mary A and Crystal Ball and in came Stupid Girls and Dear Mr. President. Just quite why the latter was brought back is anyone’s guess, it’s no longer relevant and P!nk herself said she would no longer perform it after Obama’s inaugeration earlier this year. If anything was disappointing it was when one of her dancers took to the trapeze for Sober while P!nk herself sang from the stage. She never mentioned why that was but she did end the show with Glitter in the Air and the acrobatics that went with that (being dipped in water and then spinning around all while dangling from a piece of material!) . Another theme to the show was cheese! She spent about 3 minutes speaking of her love for it and the fact that she hadn’t eaten any all day. Of course, the following night provided ample opportunity for fans to throw dozens of types of cheese onto the stage. P!nk promptly told the security guard to put it in the fridge for her.!

Vocally, she was on form as always and Bohemian Rhapsody was a particular highlight even for those in attendance who were admittedly not huge fans of P!nk. Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” is given a huge boost by her vocals and the energy she generates spreads throughout the crowd and lasts to the very note of the nearly two hour set. For the fans disappointed in the changes to the show, they might be pleased to hear that her Funhouse Summer Carnival Tour will be visiting Ireland in June next year. The dates are: King’s Hall – Belfast on the 16th June, The RDS Arena – Dublin on the 19th June and Thomand Park, Limerick on the 20th June 2010. Tickets go on sale next Friday the 23rd October at 9am from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. Dublin and Limerick prices are €58.30 general admission and €63.20 seated. The DVD of the Funhouse Tour “Live From Sydney” will be released in Ireland as a CD/DVD double-pack on the 30th October 2009.

Thank god for tea. It cures all ails. Your good writer partook of a beverage or 2 last night and is not feeling the better for it. However, she has done her best to search the world-wide interweb for all news and not so newsworthy stories about lovely ladies. We kick things off in our very own fair capital of Dublin with the news that the GAZE film festival is breaking records in its opening night last night.

Organisers say the appeal of this year’s festival has extended well beyond the gay and lesbian community. “People have really engaged with the festival and it has much more of a presence through the city and an awareness outside the gay and lesbian community,” said festival programme director Cian Smyth.

Well its certainly increased its profile, to use a horrible business phrase. Flags on the Liffey and a snazzy colour brochure? Check out our recommended list from Bear here. And sure even if you’re not a fan of the movies, pop along the the Lighthouse and have a cuppa. You never know, with that many laserbeams floating around, your soul-mate could be in attendence Promises to be a great weekend for the guys and the gals.

Good news over on the BBC website regarding Albania. Albania ‘to approve gay marriage’

It is an unexpected move in a country that is still one of the most conservative in Europe and where homosexuality was illegal until 1995.

In a predominantly Muslim country with almost no open homosexual community, the announcement by a conservative PM has taken people by surprise.

Now, if only we weren’t as conservative or backward as Albania and followed suit. Chance would be a fine thing. Staying with marriage and more good news for us! I know, what’s with all the positive headlines?

Still with the BBC, they report that Quakers ‘to allow gay marriages’

The society has already held religious blessings for same-sex couples who have had a civil partnership ceremony.

So just to check, that’s the Quakers and Albania but not Ireland? Shame on us. Over to The Examiner (US) which seems to have had a plethora of gay stories lately. Latest story from
them reports Fear of lesbians kills Kiss Cam. It’s not the title of a new horror film but perhaps it should be?!

Fans at games for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics have noticed that it is one of the few major sports teams that does not feature a Kiss Cam during games. Last week, team executives were asked why and they told reporters that they did not want to broadcast two women kissing.

“We got a lot of kids here,” said Sheila Johnson, the Mystics’ managing partner. “We just don’t find it appropriate.”

I can see it now. There’s the little cherubed-faced Charlie with his little sister and suddenly, from nowhere there is a snapshot of 2 women kissing. I mean a public display of affection
from 2 females! The parents are right to be outraged. My god, what next eh? Muppets.

But the Kiss Cam apparently poses a problem for the Washington Mystics. It is no secret that women’s professional basketball is a big favorite for the lesbian community. The crowd (and the courts) are usually filled with lesbians.

As long as they don’t start any lip-locks I’m sure they’ll be welcome. Onto ‘how did they make an article around this ‘ section. Pink Says Christina Aguilera Would Turn Lesbian for Lindsay Lohan

Lohan is not shy about… well, anything, and that includes her on-and-off, same-sex relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson, but according to a source, the openly bisexual Mean Girls actress shrugged off Pink’s remarks with a very enticing, “She (Aguilera) knows where I live.”

Speaking of celebs and love interests, it appears the rumours were true regarding Heros Claire getting some lesbian action in Season 4. Apparently NBC cut the kiss from the offical trailer. Which strikes me as weird. Don’t the networks usually make a big deal out of the fact that they have some sapphic action in a tv show that they air? Or is only for sweeps? Anyhew, this bit of ‘news’ is really just an excuse for a pic. I’m shallow, I know

And finally the Booker Longlist was annouced during the week and not one but two gay authors are on it!

Works by openly gay writers Colm Toibin and Sarah Waters both feature in the 2009 Man Booker Prize longlist, described by the judging panel’s chairman as “one of the strongest lists in recent memory”.

I still haven’t gotten around the reading The Little Stranger but it’s on my list. That’s all folks, enjoy the bank holiday whatever or whoever you get up to

With just over a week to go to the Eurovision, we here at Gaelick are all aflutter with anticipation. Okay, so I mean a royal 'we' since my fellow Gaelickers aren't as interested as I am with the competition. So I won't go on about, it but I would ask that you get behind Sinead and Black Daisy as they go and represent us next Thursday in the second semi-final. There will be more on the Eurovision at a later date :)

With just over a week to go to the Eurovision, we here at Gaelick are all aflutter with anticipation. Okay, so I mean a royal ‘we’ since my fellow Gaelickers aren’t as interested as I am with the competition. So I won’t go on about, it but I would ask that you get behind Sinead and Black Daisy as they go and represent us next Thursday in the second semi-final. There will be more on the Eurovision at a later date

Let’s start with something that’s happening this evening if you are in Dublin’s fair city. Pantibar are hosting a table quiz to raise funds for Lisa Connell, our very own LGBT candidate in the local elections. View Details here
Gaelick are hoping to profile her soon. In the meantime, get thee down to Pantibar for a night of fun and frolics and all for a good cause.

I couldn’t find any really decent articles on the news about the 17 year-old Australian teen who recently won a court battle to have his breasts removed. I mean look at this headline? Teenage girl who wants to be a boy wins right to have breasts removed

If you want to read a decent summary and take on it, check out Brielle’s commentary over on sugarandmedicine.wordpress.com Readers Show Compassion For Transgender: Australian Court Grants Teen Breast Removal

A good news week for the lesbians with Kelly McGillis making our news week. Read Orange’s report on it. Have a moment. I love a woman in uniform. I should really include a pic. No Really. I insist. One also wonders was there any truth then to the rumours about Kelly breaking Jodie’s heart during the filming of The Accused? Seeing as they both happen to prefer women now…I’m only saying like.

Staying with celebrities, or should I say sub-lebrities, Marie Osmand said I love and support my lesbian daughter. Good for her but why is it newsworthy? It’s not like the Osmands are top of the charts or are media darlings. But then I read this:

Though the interviewer posed the question to be a sensitive issue knowing Osmond’s Mormon faith, Osmond wasn’t shy to speak openly about supporting her lesbian daughter.

“You know on those types of things I’m very supportive. When it comes to marriage, I think that civil rights need to be for all. When you start mixing religion into that and beliefs, you know, I do believe in the Bible. My daughter understands my beliefs

Go Marie! That’s a pic of her and a doll by the way and not her daughter

Like ying and yang, we get good press and we get bad press. Girls Aloud Singer Cheryl Cole Kissed And Bitten By Lesbian Fan

According to The Sun, “The hysterical fan, who wore a brace on her teeth, ran off shouting: “I kissed Cheryl, I kissed Cheryl” – not realising she had accidentally bitten the beauty.

I stopped reading after According to The Sun

Speaking of trashy tabloids, the News of the World ‘broke’ the amazing news that P!nk declared to the world that she’s bi. The world reacted with shock. If you go here

Some headlines

Now Pink denies being bisexual
Pink likes the ladies but not that way. No, really
‘Who Knew’ singer Pink: I’m NOT bisexual
Pink Rubbishes ‘Fabricated’ Bisexual Claims On Twitter

Who knew and who cares! She’s P!nk, she’s fab. Does it matter if it’s men and women or men she prefers?

And finally…if you’re lucky, or unlucky enough depending on how you view things, to be above a DD in bra size, you won’t be a happy shopper with Marks and Sparks, Marks & Spencer refuses to budge on bra surcharge. I have to say I was surprised. Marks usually top most polls regarding ethical shopping, value for money and the conform in knowing that what you’ve bought hasn’t been hand-stitched by small children in a shed somewhere. There’s now a Facebook group calling for Marks to stop the extra charge:

The Busts 4 Justice group introduction reads: “Britain boasts of its fairness, and M&S boasts of its absolute Britishness. Busts 4 Justice argue that the price equality that rules our outer garments should apply to our undergarments too.

“Busty ladies, and anyone else with a vested interest in busty ladies, in fact anyone with a vested interest in simple justice, join forces to end this blatant discrimination.”

Can I just say, inspired title for the group Busts 4 Justice I like to keep you abreast of the news.

What do you think? Are we being ripped off or are Marks justified in charging extra? Which side do you support?

We had thought the week would end on a quiet note for the LGBT community from a news perspective after all the celebrations regarding Sweden, Iowa and Vermont approving gay marriage. Well think again. From P!nk breaking lesbian hearts all over again to a 16 year old transexual model, and rounding it off with the continuing are-they aren’t-they who-cares breakup of Samantha Ronson and Lindsey Lohan.

Let’s start with P!nk as we know one of our gaelickers is a big fan of hers, Annie-Aura look away now, coz she’s off the market – again. According to The Sun, and what’s not to believe from that ‘wonderful’ red top, Pink has a rethink over ex.

Whatever you feel about the tabloids, you have to give them credit with some ‘interesting’ headlines.

POP star PINK’s ex-husband CAREY HART yesterday told The Sun they are giving their relationship a second chance.

As if anything could be more important to out community than that, there were some serious stories out there. Panel to examine same-sex domestic violence

For those who have become victims of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender domestic violence, it may seem as though getting help is out of reach, but it’s not.

Melissa Caldwell, a graduate student in the College of Social Work, has organized the LGBT Domestic Violence Panel, which will be held on Thursday. Caldwell will speak with Austin Matthews, an Eastern Kentucky University assistant professor, who has done research on intimate partner violence.

It is something which is not studied or talked about enough, I feel, within the community.

Meet Kim Petra, thanks to the wonderful sugarandmedicine blog, I have read all about her and what a positive role model she must be for transsexuals the world over. Read all about her over there and check out the rest of the fab blog.

The original article in the Spiegel can also be found at the above post and I had to point this out purely because I do not know how to take this quote.

They’ve learned that transsexuality has nothing to do with homosexuality. It’s not about feather boas and red-light districts so much as identity. Transsexuals aren’t “queer birds” — they want the perfectly normal life of the opposite sex. And some will submit to radical methods, from hormones to surgery, to conform their bodies to the “right” gender.

* tosses feather boa over shoulder *
WTF?

Moving on to Cambodia where the First Cambodian lesbian film is a hit. If we head back to 2007, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen publicly announced that he was disowning his adopted daughter because she was a lesbian. It’s progress, however slight.

One step forward, 2 steps back. Milk movie banned in Samoa

From Cambodia lesbians, to Samoan gays all the way over the Australia and our favourite lesbian couple down under, Charlie and Joey. According to a few newspapers, Second lesbian kiss in Summer Bay will happen despite those poor families wondering what will happen to their kids when they start asking uncomfortable questions like “Mummy why is the cop kissing that woman?”, or “Daddy, when I grow up I want to be a lesbian deckhand just like Joey and make out with hot women in uniform”. Being a parent must be tough at times, trying to explain that, whilst this ‘gay thing’ may be portrayed as ‘normal’ and Joey and Charlie may look like ‘normal’ women, they are in face the devil incarnate.

Esther Anderson talks lesbian kissing on Home and Away

It’s an interesting development for Home and Away.

It’s amazing that it’s still such a taboo subject in this day and age because it’s everywhere. The gay population is growing. To me there’s no difference — love’s love. The fact that your partner’s the same sex is no different. The only difference is all that stigma society attaches to it.

The storyline explores all those issues of discrimination and stigma but it also shows it’s a beautiful love story like any other romance on the show.

Any excuse for a woman in uniform, here on the left we have Esther Anderson aka Charlie in her homosexual recruiting uniform, sorry her cop uniform (the 2 uniforms look so similar it’s hard to tell them apart) standing next to what we all know is a well known lesbian prop – the pool table. I mean, it practically screams “Come join me and play!”. Well perhaps that’s just me

Poor Lindsay Lohan…
Lindsay: My romance with Sam not over

The ”Mean Girls” actress reportedly split from her DJ girlfriend last week, but now she has come out and defended her relationship with her lesbian lover.

Asked how she was coping without Samantha, Lindsay replied: “You guys make it seem like it’s so over, but it’s not. People take breaks. It’s OK. It’s normal, they focus on themselves.”

Awash with Egyptian river water is our Linds.

As this is Easter week, the last word must go to the poor persecuted Christians and Fark. Whilst Fark usually has stories submitted by pre-pubesecent teenage boys, this made me laugh

Christians complain they are being persecuted for not being allowed to persecute homosexuals

She’s really churning them out this time around. The video for her next single* “Please Don’t Leave Me” has been premièred on msn. P!nk is still an angry lady by the looks of it. Brandishing a golfclub over the bed of her lover (ex-lover?) she seems to have channelled Kathy Bates. To me the song deserves an emotional and honest video but she’s decided instead to go for twisted comedy. I don’t think I’ll be watching it too much but what do you think?

P!nk and Carey Hart Back Together?

According to the Brisbane Times Carey Hart has moved into her Malibu home. “Pink is head over heels for Carey and wants to try it again, but she is proceeding cautiously. They just took a break on the marriage because they couldn’t make it work never seeing each other. She never gave up hope that it would work.” Odd considering that she only recently told Ellen that herself and Carey would never get back together.

*The single is set for release in Australia but is expected as the third release in most other countries although unconfirmed as yet.

We all love P!nk and it seems quite a few of us expect her to pop out of the closet this year. Here are 5 reasons why she won't be doing any such thing.

No related posts.

According to a poll on www.lesbilicious.co.uk, P!nk is the number one straight crush for UK lesbians. 31% of those who took part in the poll also said they expected P!nk to come out this year. Well, I have some news. She won’t and here’s why:

1. She’s not a lesbian.
Simple really. “I’m not gay so I guess I would not try a relationship with a woman. I didn’t say I haven’t experimented but I love men too much to make it a permanent thing.” When questioned by Q magazine back in 2004 she said: “Women like to talk about everything, way too much sh… If I was with a woman I’d be the guy in the relationship. Like, Come on, shut up!“.

2. She’s hates labels.
When Diva magazine asked her if she was bisexual or queer she told them that she didn’t believe in labels but does believe that everyone is trisexual. Hmmm…

3. She loves being a tease.
And we love her even more because of that. How else do you explain this:

4. She would have come out by now.
P!nk is brutally honest with her fans. She has no problem with how people perceive her. And If she did come out as a lesbian it wouldn’t affect her record sales.

5.She loves boy bits too much.
In an interview back in September she was asked what she missed most about her ex, Carey. Her answer? “I really loved my husband’s penis. It was really pretty.”

I rest my case.

(By the way, P!nk, if you’re reading this, feel free to prove me wrong. I’d only be too delighted.)

P!nk played at the Marquee in Cork on the 7th July. It was brilliant as usual. We walked from the city centre for what seemed like hours to get to the Big Top. We thought we would be able to see it on the horizon but we couldn’t even see it when we joined the queue!

A female DJ was on the decks to warm the place up (trust me, they didn’t need warming up). A fifteen minute break and then “ICE CREAM! ICE CREAM! WE ALL WANT ICE CREAM!”. I couldn’t believe it was a whole 11 months since I last saw this woman, that’s far too long! She didn’t stray from her usual festival set-list which included The Four Non-Blondes’ “What’s Going On” (which is always guaranteed to make everyone hoarse) and the Janis Joplin medley. The best of which was “Piece of My Heart”. (Watch a snippet of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTJP6z1Jt88 ). The performances of “Who Knew” and “The One That Got Away” had an added poignancy when you think of her impending divorce from Carey Hart. Her planned costume changes were scuppered by the airport losing her luggage. I assume her hair gel was in the case also as she left her hat on for the entire performance (I did not approve). She left the tent after bouncing renditions of “You & Your Hand” and “Get the Party Started”, her usual encore.

Filtering out of the venue we overheard some eager fans mention the hotel where P!nk was staying for the night. We happened to be passing by on our way back to our own hotel so we may or may not have nonchalantly loitered outside for twenty minutes (with a few other nonchalant loiterers might I add)! We didn’t see her (probably for the best).

A fabulous weekend, I hope it’s not 11 months until her next visit!
